Bearing Sensor
More Goodies

July 31, 1999:

Here is information based on the reply I received from Horst upon inquiring about the front hub monitor. He is currently in the process of building some units of the "final" preliminary version for sale at the September GMC rally in Iowa. Building neat-stuff for the GMC is one of his retirement hobbies.

Want one? Drop him a note.

You can email Horst at: horstb@worldnet.att.net.

The front wheel temperature sensor, which is being field tested right now in 4 GMC's was born out of a bearing burn-up that I experienced on one of my travels and the many other GMC owners that told me of similar problems. I believe this to be the weakest part of the GMC.

General Description:
- 1 driver side & 1 passenger side front wheel (HUB) mounted sensors
- wires from the sensors to a monitor (LCD readout) module in the cab
- alternately (~ every 40 sec.) displays the temperature (seems to be 150 to
170F)
- accuracy is not great but very repeatable (within 5F)
- temperature increase will indicate problem
- final unit will have a red LED alarm indicator
- mounting is very easy, no need to remove wheels
- price, at this time is $ 149.00
- the sensors should also pick up temperature increases on the front brake.

Pardon the disarray on the page but I thought a little disarray is better than delaying the posting of it :-)
