{"id":1131,"date":"2018-07-20T15:27:52","date_gmt":"2018-07-20T22:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smallrvs.ca\/?p=1131"},"modified":"2018-07-20T16:30:04","modified_gmt":"2018-07-20T23:30:04","slug":"trailer-weights-and-tire-pressure-tweaked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smallrvs.ca\/?p=1131","title":{"rendered":"Trailer went to a Scale and Tire Pressure tweaked as a result."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ascape had, what I thought, excessive bounce.<br \/>\nBased on what I learned over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnttt.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TNTTT<\/a> forum I had the wheels balanced and used tire manufacturers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minderresearch.com\/content\/PDFs\/TowmaxSTRLoadInflation2014.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">load chart<\/a> to lower my tire PSI to 35 lbs.<\/p>\n<p>I also weighed the Ascape. Total weight came in at 2006 lbs. and hitch weight came to 333 lbs.<\/p>\n<p>Hitch weight turned out higher than expected, but fridge was empty.<\/p>\n<p>I weighed with full fresh water and empty grey water as that&#8217;s how I expect to travel. We avoid commercial campsites as much as possible so we plan to be self contained.<\/p>\n<p>Planning to weigh hitch again when loaded for a real trip.<br \/>\nI have some options if hitch weight needs to be reduced:<br \/>\n1) Carry spare in tow vehicle &#8211; lowers hitch weight to 312 lbs.<br \/>\n2) Move the 2 gallons of drinking water we carry to rear door &#8211; 308 lbs.<br \/>\n3) Go with single propane tank &#8211; 280 lbs.<\/p>\n<p>Leaves a bit of wiggle room in case just loading it up to normal doesn&#8217;t get it to the 15% I&#8217;d like to see.<\/p>\n<p>I used a test with a clear container, filled with contrasting coloured liquid set by the door.<br \/>\nSetup a camera and to record the ride.<br \/>\nThe difference before and after getting the wheels balance was quite startling.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a 30 second clip that shows <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/ybugw2ny\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">before and after wheel balancing<\/a>.<\/p>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ascape had, what I thought, excessive bounce.
